Zee - Help a Mother with a Brain Tumour Keep Her Six Children in Education

Living in a tent in Gaza, Mayada is fighting illness while giving her children the chance of a better future

Mayada Helmy Breeka and her husband, Ibrahim, are raising six children in a tent in Gaza: Rahaf, Rimas, Fares, Janan, Naeem and Jumana. Mayada has a tumour in her pituitary gland and needs ongoing treatment, but the family can barely afford food.

Despite everything, Mayada is determined that her children keep learning. Her eldest daughter is studying at university in Gaza, and her younger children attend school and nursery. For Mayada, education is the one thing the war has not been able to take from them.

Winter is coming, and a tent offers little protection from the cold and rain. The children don’t have enough warm clothes or blankets to get through the freezing nights. Every month, the family needs £480 to cover food and water for eight people, school and university fees, treatment for Mayada’s tumour, and warm clothes and blankets for winter.
