Zee - Help a Family Displaced More Than Five Times Rebuild Their Lives

They lost their home, their work and everything they owned. Help Abu Fares and Umm Fares care for their three sons in Gaza

Hussein Al-Omari (Abu Fares) and his wife Ghadeer Sharaf (Umm Fares) are from Beit Lahia in northern Gaza. They have three young sons: Fares (8), Watan (5) and Muhammad (2). At the start of the war, their home and their work were destroyed. They lost everything they had.

Since then, the family has been displaced more than five times under gunfire and bombardment. They slept on the sand in the south with a single blanket between them, then lived in a tent in Sheikh Radwan before being forced out again. In Nuseirat, winter rains flooded their tent, soaking all their blankets and clothes. Muhammad was born during the war and has known nothing else. He has suffered from severe skin inflammation since birth and needs ointments to ease it.

Today the family rents a home in Nuseirat that was badly damaged by bombing, because there was nowhere else to go. The boys lost years of education, so their parents enrolled them in a private school to give them a better future. With another winter coming, the family has still not replaced the clothes and blankets they lost to the floods. Every month, they need £480 to cover rent, food, school fees, milk, nappies and skin cream for Muhammad, and warm clothes and blankets for winter.
